Getting Veneers
How the procedure actually works

First visit
We'll start with a simple consultation. Here, you can ask any questions you want about the process. We'll discuss the ins and outs of the process and compare it to alternatives like braces or bonding. After we've agreed that veneers are the best choice, we move into the next phase.

Second visit
We prep your tooth by stripping a thin layer of enamel from it. We then take impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to a lab where your veneers will be sculpted and readied. There is a brief waiting period between now and the third visit, usually a few weeks.

Third visit
You'll receive a thorough cleaning of your mouth so that bacteria isn't accidentally trapped underneath the veneer. We'll now use a grinding tool which creates a rough texture for the tooth that will be receiving the veneer. This special texture makes it easier for the veneer to attach to the tooth. Next, we apply a binding cement to the inside surface of the veneer and place it on your tooth. An ultraviolet light is used to quickly harden the cement.
Veneers Vs. Braces
Two competing ways to improve your appearance
If you're seeking an aesthetic improvement for your teeth, you may be wondering whether braces or veneers are the best choice. Well, as you might expect, each service has its pros and cons. Here are a few points about each: Braces are useful for those who suffer from an overbite, underbite, or crossbite. They're also effective for patients who have large gaps in their teeth. If you're looking for major structural fixes for your teeth, then braces are generally the best option. While the treatment time is much longer than you would receive with veneers, once the treatment is over, there is very little maintenance except for possibly needing to wear a retainer at night. Veneers, on the other hand, are more focused on cosmetic improvements than structural ones. If your
teeth are chipped, cracked, or stained -- but you don't have a problem with your bite -- then veneers may be right for you. While they're not great for major gap issues in one's mouth, they can fix minor ones. One of the greatest things about veneers is that they offer immediate cosmetic improvements as soon as the procedure is over; there's no need to wait for months or years as you would with braces. Unlike braces, which are removed after the process is complete, veneers do need to be maintained and replaced over time. Ultimately, the decision is yours. Are you interested in the immediate cosmetic benefits that veneers can give you? Or are you more into the long-term structural support that braces are meant to provide? Your preferences will go a long way in determining which service is right for you.

-
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells made of tooth-colored materials, which are bonded to the surface of a tooth to improve its appearance.
-
Dental bonding vs. veneers, which is better?
As with all dental services, each has its pros and cons. Dental bonding typically only takes one appointment, which is faster than veneers, and it is often cheaper. However, the composite resin used for bonding is not as strong as porcelain in veneers.
-
How strong are veneers?
While porcelain veneers are very thin, they're actually quite strong and can handle the daily pressures of biting and chewing food. Of course, they're not invincible; don't do anything with them that you wouldn't do with an ordinary tooth!
-
How long do porcelain veneers last?
It depends on how well you take care of them, but on average, veneers last from about 10 to 20 years. Some of them can last even longer if properly cared for!
-
What makes a good candidate for veneers?
If you have chipped or stained teeth and you want to cover those flaws, then veneers may be right for you. They may also be appropriate for those who want to perfect their smiles.
-
What makes a bad candidate for veneers?
If you're suffering from tooth decay or rot, it's not a good idea to cover it up with veneers. Make sure your decay is cleaned up before getting the veneers. Also, if you grind your teeth regularly, you may want to seek solutions so you don't damage your veneers.
-
How do I take care of veneers?
Brush twice a day for two minutes, and floss once a day. Go in for cleanings and exams every six months. Wearing a bite guard at night is another good way to protect your veneers. Also, be sure to avoid especially hard foods.
-
How much do dental veneers cost?
The cost of veneers depends on a number of factors, including where you have them done and the number of teeth requiring them. Feel free to give us a call at (657) 888-9011 to set up a consultation to discuss specific price points.
-
How can I get veneers to match the color of my teeth?
This is a concern that we can address in-office. Sometimes patients get veneers in a shade whiter than their actual teeth and then get teeth whitening to match the shade.
